چکیده

We find that at redshifts z > ∼ 10, HD line cooling allows strongly-shocked primordial gas to cool to the temperature of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). This temperature is the minimum value attainable via radiative cooling. Provided that the abundance of HD, normalized to the total number density, exceeds a critical level of ∼ 10, the CMB temperature floor is reached in a time which is short compared to the Hubble time. We estimate the characteristic masses of stars formed out of shocked primordial gas in the wake of the first supernovae, and resulting from the mergers of dark matter haloes during hierarchical structure formation to be ∼ 10M⊙. In addition, we show that cooling by HD enables the primordial gas in relic H II regions to cool to temperatures considerably lower than those reached via H2 cooling alone. We confirm that HD cooling is unimportant in cases where the primordial gas does not go through an ionized phase, as in the formation process of the very first stars in z > ∼ 20 minihaloes of mass ∼ 106M⊙.

Thermal and Dynamical Evolution of Primordial Gas Clouds On the Formation of First Luminous Objects

We investigate the thermal and dynamical evolution of primordial gas clouds in the universe after decoupling. Comparing the time-scale of dynamical evolution with that of fragmentation, we can estimate the typical fragmentation scale. We propose the following scenario of the formation process of first luminous objects consisting of large number stars. First, by pancake collapse of the overdensi...

تأثیر مقیاس زمان سرمایش و غیر ایده‌آل بودن گاز در امواج ضربه ای

According to the suddenly compression of the matters in some regions of the compressible fluids, the density and temperature suddenly increases, and shockwaves can be produced. The cooling of post-shock region and non-idealness of the equation of state, $p=(k_B/mu m_p)rho T (1+brho) equivmathcal{K}rho T (1+eta R)$, where $mu m_p$ is the relative density of the post-shock gas and $Requiv rho_2 /...

The Formation of a Cooling Layer in a Partially Optically Thick Shock

The mechanics of a radiative shock which has “collapsed,” or been compressed to high density, via radiative cooling is discussed. This process is relevant to an experiment in xenon gas that produced a driven, radiatively collapsed shock, and also to a simulation of the supernova 1987A shock wave passing through the outer layers of the star and into the low-density circumstellar material.

The thermal evolution of primordial gas clouds : A clue to galaxy formation

The thermal evolution of the primordial gas cloud is investigated. First, we study non-spherical primordial gas clouds of mass M = 10 6 M . We study two cases: 1) prolate and oblate clouds without angular momentum, 2) initially spherical, oblate and prolate clouds with angular momentum. In the spherical case, the magnitude of the angular momentum is the key quantity which determines the fragmen...

The First Galaxies: Assembly, Cooling and the Onset of Turbulence

We investigate the properties of the first galaxies at z & 10 with highly resolved numerical simulations, starting from cosmological initial conditions and taking into account all relevant primordial chemistry and cooling. A first galaxy is characterized by the onset of atomic hydrogen cooling, once the virial temperature exceeds ≃ 10 K, and its ability to retain photoheated gas. We follow the ...
